Cap Cana will host a busy May sports calendar. Events range from international triathlon competitions to sport fishing tournaments and swimming events.
This month’s agenda brings together athletes from different countries. It also confirms how sports have become one of the destination’s strongest driving forces.
Ironman 70.3: athletes from more than 60 countries will arrive in Cap Cana
One of the biggest events of the month will be Ironman 70.3 Cap Cana, taking place from May 16 to 18.
The main competition will happen on saturday, May 17, and will bring together more than 1,000 international triathletes. The race combines open-water swimming, cycling, and running across different areas of the destination.
In addition to the athletes, the event is expected to attract coaches, families, and visitors connected to the competition. As a result, activity across the destination will increase significantly during that weekend.
Over the years, the race has positioned itself within the regional circuit thanks to factors such as sea conditions, weather, and Cap Cana’s tourism infrastructure.
Today, the event is already considered one of the most important competitions of its kind in Latin America.
White Marlin Tournament: sport fishing season returns
The sports calendar continues with the White Marlin Tournament 2026, scheduled from May 21 to 23 at Marina Cap Cana.
The competition will bring together boats and sport fishermen from both the Dominican Republic and abroad during one of the most active marlin fishing seasons in the Caribbean.
The tournament follows a catch and release format. This practice focuses on releasing species such as White Marlin, Blue Marlin, and Sailfish after they are caught, aligning with the conservation approach that defines these competitions.
The schedule includes competition days, an awards ceremony, and special categories for boats and fishermen.
Beyond the tournament itself, the event also reflects the growing position Marina Cap Cana has gained within the regional sport fishing circuit.
Belote Swimming Tournament: more than 500 children will compete this month
The calendar also includes the Belote Swimming Tournament 2026, which will take place on May 23 at Cap Cana Heritage School.
The competition will bring together more than 500 children and teams from different parts of the country for a day focused on competitive swimming.
For many participants, this will be their first tournament. For others, it represents another important stop within the national swimming calendar.
Sports as a driver of the destination
Beyond each discipline, May’s agenda highlights the role sports now play within Cap Cana.
Every competition activates hotels, restaurants, marinas, transportation, and complementary experiences throughout the destination. At the same time, these events continue to position Cap Cana before an international audience that increasingly associates it not only with beaches and relaxation, but also with major sporting events.
