Tri Cap Cana’s 10th Anniversary in 7 Facts

Ten editions, hundreds of athletes and countless kilometers swimming, cycling and running across the Destination City. Tri Cap Cana celebrated its 10th anniversary this year with a renewed course that introduced new settings and race formats.

Of course, a decade comes with plenty of stories. Over the years, the competition has brought together national and international athletes while taking sports across different areas of Cap Cana.

These seven facts tell part of the story behind those 10 years:

1. More than 350 athletes joined the anniversary edition

The 10th edition brought together more than 350 athletes, including individual competitors and relay teams. Volunteers, collaborators, families and support staff also joined them throughout the event.

The number gives a sense not only of Tri Cap Cana’s reach, but also of everything that happens around a competition that brings sports and community together across the destination.

2. The course tells a story of its own

The settings of Tri Cap Cana have evolved along with the competition. In 2019, for example, the race started at Juanillo Beach, which also hosted the swimming segment.

From there, athletes cycled to the Farallón and back to Juanillo. They then completed the running segment to Las Iguanas and returned to the finish line.

This year, El Lago debuted as the starting point and swimming venue, adding a new setting to the anniversary course.

3. The Farallón remains part of the challenge

Courses evolve, but some landmarks remain. The Cap Cana Farallón once again became part of the cycling segment and one of the race’s most demanding stretches.

Its elevations add another level of difficulty while making Cap Cana’s own geography part of the challenge.

4. Sprint or Olympic: two ways to take on the challenge

The distances put the race into perspective. In the Sprint Triathlon, athletes completed a 750-meter swim, a 20-kilometer bike ride and a 5-kilometer run.

In the Olympic Triathlon, the challenge increased to a 1.5-kilometer swim, 40 kilometers of cycling and a 10-kilometer run.

Two different formats, with the same three disciplines at their core: swimming, cycling and running.

5. The duathlon was one of this year’s big additions

Even after a decade, there is still room for firsts. The duathlon joined the Tri Cap Cana program this year, adding a race format that combines running and cycling.

Its debut opened another way to take part in an event that already welcomes different disciplines and levels of competition.

6. The anniversary edition crowned its champions

Competition was at the heart of the celebration. In the Sprint Triathlon, Jorge Emanuel Alemanez Martínez took first place in the men’s division, while Isabel Rodríguez Silverio led the women’s field.

In the Olympic Triathlon, David Ballesta García claimed the men’s title, while Leslie Amat Álvarez finished first among the women. The Olympic Relay was won by the team led by Elieser Grullón.

Winners were also crowned in the Olympic Duathlon, 5K and 10K categories, completing a program that brought together different disciplines and levels of competition.

7. A decade that also tells a story of sports tourism

Tri Cap Cana is part of a broader calendar that makes sports another way to experience and explore the destination.

The anniversary also showed how much a competition can evolve without losing its essence. New settings, courses and race formats have become part of the experience, while sports, community and Cap Cana’s surroundings remain at its core.

After a decade of swimming strokes, kilometers on two wheels and countless steps toward the finish line, Tri Cap Cana is already beginning its next chapter.
