Alma Taveras, director of WT Events Planner Box and Editor in Chief of the Abordo magazine, announced that Marina Cap Cana will be the stage for the celebration of the sixth edition of the Abordo Fishing Derby with the participation of sport fishermen from the major Nautical and marine clubs of the Dominican Republic, Puerto Rico, among other islands of the Caribbean, Venezuela, and the United States.
The event will be held from April 28th to the 30th and will reward the fisherman and boat with the highest score of accumulated billfish releases and weighing of allowed catch species (Mahi-mahi, Tuna and Wahoo), and the angler who achieves the greatest weight of mahi-mahi, tuna and Wahoo in first, second and third place. Special categories for most outstanding child, junior and female will also play a role in this edition of the tournament.
Taveras said that the event, which is part of the Marina Cap Cana fishing season, is a charity event all fishermen will donate the fish caught, which will be sold through the Fresh Fish Market which all proceeds from the market and the tournament will be destined to the Nuevo Juanillo community to foster education as part of the social work carried out by Carol Masui and Shell Cadenas through their non-profit institution ,Colibrí Partners.
Taveras reported that the Abordo Fishing Derby is an “event open to the different local and international clubs and marinas, being able to participate all types of boats with equipment of fishing of height and security, as well as children from 8 years of age.
“The marina will become a Fresh Fish Market after each day of the tournament, and the inhabitants of the communities of Cap Cana, Punta Cana and Bavaro will be able to go and buy the fish captured and donated by the tournament’s anglers,” said Taveras .
She announced that the tournament agenda, which will coincide with a long weekend, will include Magic Show, BBQ Party, parties, DJ, and the winners will be awarded with works of art, trophies among other prizes.
