Cap Cana continues to strengthen its role in sports tourism in the Dominican Republic. From march 9 to 15, it will host the Dominican Republic Open Copa Cap Cana ATP Challenger 175.
It also reaffirms Ciudad Destino commitment to a low impact environmental model. This model integrates sustainability and high level sport within a unified vision for development.
As it continues to grow within the international circuit, the tournament raises the standard of professional tennis in the Dominican Republic. This positions Cap Cana as a strategic hub for tennis in the Caribbean.
“This year, the Copa Cap Cana introduces new elements that define it as an inclusive and sustainable event of the highest level, featuring professional athletes ranked within the world’s top 100 and an increased prize money of US$300,000,” said Fernando Hazoury, Chairman of the Board of Cap Cana.
A sustainable precedent that continues
In its previous edition, the Dominican Republic Open Copa Cap Cana ATP Challenger 175 implemented a comprehensive environmental strategy aimed at minimizing impact and optimizing resource management throughout the event.
Among the key measures adopted was the elimination of single use plastics in food and beverage concession areas. with this measure, the event prioritizes reusable alternatives to reduce waste generation.
In addition, hydration stations were made available and reusable cups were provided for players, staff and spectators.
Moreover, reusable laundry bags were also implemented for players, avoiding the use of approximately 1,100 plastic bags during the tournament.
Looking ahead, the 2026 edition will continue these sustainability measures.
Responsible waste management
During the previous edition, the organization installed waste separation bins across the venue. Through a partnership with Botellas de Amor, the event team collected and redirected flexible plastics.
As part of this initiative, benches made from recycled materials were installed in common areas of Cap Cana.
Efficient water use and sustainable landscaping
One hundred percent of the water used during the event was treated and reused for landscaping and maintenance in different areas of the destination.
Landscaping incorporated native and endemic plants from the Dominican Republic, supporting local biodiversity and reducing the environmental footprint associated with the tournament.
Accessibility and inclusion
The Dominican Republic Open Copa Cap Cana ATP Challenger 175 also integrated inclusion criteria, providing reserved seating areas for individuals with disabilities and ensuring an accessible experience for all attendees.
With this new edition, Cap Cana reaffirms that the growth of sports tourism in the Dominican Republic can be developed under standards of environmental responsibility, operational efficiency and positive community impact.
