Cap Cana opens its sports calendar with the Copa Larimar and the Dominican Republic Open Copa Cap Cana ATP Challenger 175

In recent years, Cap Cana has established itself as one of the most active venues in the country for high-profile sporting events, hosting international competitions, professional tournaments, and maintaining the infrastructure required to sustain an increasingly robust calendar.

The consecutive celebration of the second edition of the Copa Larimar and the Dominican Republic Open Copa Cap Cana ATP Challenger 175, which also enters its second year, marks the official opening of the Ciudad Destino sports calendar and reinforces its positioning as the leading hub for sports tourism in the Dominican Republic.

The combination of professional padel and tennis at the start of the season reflects a clear strategy: integrating sport, tourism, and experience within a calendar that continues to grow in scale and projection.

The Start of the Sports Season

The calendar begins with the second edition of the Copa Larimar, a padel tournament that continues to consolidate its place within the national circuit and aims to establish itself as a fixed date on the country’s sports agenda.

The competition is played in a team format and brings together eight clubs from across the country, each fielding their top male and female players. This year’s participating clubs include White Sands Padel, Downtown Padel Club, Los Establos Racquet Club, Padel Galaxy, Complejo Deportivo Cocotal (CDC), SD Padel Club, Padel Oasis, and Padel Republic, reflecting the sport’s growth across different regions of the country and the commitment to building a benchmark competitive event.

The tournament takes its name from larimar, the Dominican Republic’s emblematic stone, incorporated into the trophy as a symbol of national identity and as part of a concept that links sport with local culture. The venue is Cap Cana Sports City, a complex that continues to position itself as one of the destination’s leading sports centers.

Beyond competition, the Copa Larimar seeks to foster community and experience, integrating sport and lifestyle within the destination’s annual calendar.

Professional Tennis Takes the Stage

Following padel, the agenda continues with the Dominican Republic Open Copa Cap Cana ATP Challenger 175, the highest category within the ATP Challenger circuit.

The tournament awards 175 ATP ranking points to the champion and forms part of the international professional tennis calendar. Its positioning between Indian Wells and the Miami Open makes it a strategic stop for players seeking competitive rhythm and high-value ranking points ahead of major commitments.

The 2026 edition marks the tournament’s second year, a key stage in its consolidation within the circuit. American player Aleksandar Kovacevic, champion in 2025, is part of the event’s history as its first titleholder.

Cap Cana and Sports Tourism

The consecutive scheduling of both tournaments confirms the destination’s commitment to sports tourism as a central development strategy. Its infrastructure, logistics, and organizational capacity have enabled Cap Cana to build a calendar that integrates multiple disciplines and attracts both national and international participants.

With these second editions, the destination continues to strengthen its presence on the sports map, launching a season that will welcome additional competitions and events in the months ahead.
