There are gatherings in Cap Cana that feel different, and Cena con Propósito was one of them. The community came together at Barbudo, a local favorite, to support the Cap Cana Foundation—an organization that has spent nearly a decade developing projects that sustain the natural life of this place: an underwater coral nursery, the rescue of urban beehives, the protection of endemic species, sustainable gardens, and environmental education programs that reach schools and nearby communities.
The energy of the night didn’t come from the menu or the setting, but from the conversations. The Foundation’s team moved between tables with the ease of people who know their cause intimately, explaining how each rescued hive prevents the loss of thousands of bees, and how native plants are cultivated to reforest sensitive areas. There were no formal speeches, just stories shared up close.
One of the most memorable gestures of the evening was the honey produced by the hives they care for, available for purchase that night. We took three jars home (because we love it and because it makes an excellent Christmas gift). It wasn’t a souvenir to toss into a bag; it was a sweet way to understand the real impact of small projects when they’re carried out consistently.
There was also a seasonal touch: a special coconut-and-honey punch prepared for guests, a reminder that meaningful causes can also be celebrated.
The closing of Cena con Propósito was as simple as it was thoughtful. Served alongside dessert—a delicious key lime pie—a QR code led directly to the Foundation’s website, offering immediate access to learn more about their programs or sign up as a volunteer. It was a gesture perfectly aligned with the organization’s spirit: adding value through everyday actions, without complications.
As the Cap Cana Foundation approaches its tenth anniversary, the evening made one thing clear: its work gains meaning when the community recognizes it, supports it, and stands with it. And that night, the cause spoke louder than any stage.
