Cap Cana received the distinction at The Best of DR 2026, an awards ceremony that placed a special focus on sports while celebrating Dominican talent across various industries.
Tourism and sports took center stage at The Best of DR 2026, where Cap Cana was honored as a Sports Tourism Destination. The award was presented in the Sports & Business category, highlighting Cap Cana during an edition dedicated to celebrating Dominican excellence.
Organized by Mercado Media Network, the gala brought together more than 40 award recipients at Portazul, in Santo Domingo’s Colonial Zone. While sports played a prominent role, the ceremony also recognized achievements in gastronomy, fashion, entertainment, culture, and business.
Honoring Dominican sports figures
The 25th Central American and Caribbean Games Santo Domingo 2026 were a major highlight of the ceremony. Alongside Cap Cana, several athletes, teams, and sports leaders received recognition for their contributions.
Among the honorees were the Reinas del Caribe, the Dominican Republic’s women’s national volleyball team, recognized as Sports Ambassadors. Luisín Mejía Oviedo, president of Centro Caribe Sports, also received the International Sports Leadership award.
José P. Monegro, president of the Organizing Committee, was honored in the Sports Event of the Year category. Meanwhile, Alberto Zayas, general producer of the opening ceremony, received the Production of the Year award.
Dominican talent and excellence
The celebration also highlighted the contributions of businesses, institutions, and notable figures from other industries.
In fashion, Jenny Polanco received the International Recognition award. Meanwhile, Mariasela Álvarez and Fundación Sinfonía were honored for their 35 and 40 years of contributions, respectively.
Gastronomy was also represented, with awards presented to Vuelve a La Vida and Casa Diccia, the latter recognized in the Boutique Coffee Shop category.
