World Book Day in Ciudad Destino: free books as part of the lifestyle

Every April 23, the world celebrates World Book Day, a date promoted by UNESCO to encourage reading, support the publishing industry and protect intellectual property.

But beyond speeches and “must-read” lists, there are places where this idea is already part of everyday life. Ciudad Destino Cap Cana is one of them.

A quiet gesture that’s now part of daily life

In a community where everything tends to revolve around the sea, golf and social life, there is a more subtle but equally powerful movement that has been taking shape for years: books have found their place too.

The Free Libraries across Ciudad Destino Cap Cana have been active for some time, organically integrated into different areas of the community. More than a one-time initiative, they work as an open invitation: take a book, leave a book, and allow stories to circulate.

These colorful mini libraries are currently located in Juanillo, Api Beach, Ciudad Las Canas and Green Village Plaza, key spots where the flow of residents and visitors turns reading into something accessible, casual and almost spontaneous.

Thoughtful simplicity

The concept is not complicated, and that may be exactly where its magic lies. There are no memberships, no registrations and no schedules. Just one clear idea: Take a book, share a book.

These libraries are part of the global Little Free Library network, a non-profit organization that promotes free access to books through small community libraries around the world.

In Cap Cana, this initiative takes on a unique character. The books are multilingual, designed for both residents and visitors, and span different age groups, from children’s literature to lighter, general-interest reads.

More than books, a sense of community

In a time where everything is digital, immediate and often disposable, these Free Libraries offer something different: exchange, pause and connection.

And yes, it may seem like a small detail within everything Cap Cana offers, but that is exactly why it works. It doesn’t compete, it complements.

Maybe that is the best way to celebrate World Book Day: not just by reading, but by letting stories find someone new.
