Beyond IRONMAN 70.3: Cap Cana supports Dominican athletes

Cap Cana continues to establish itself as one of the leading sports tourism destinations in the Caribbean. At the same time, the destination is also beginning to focus part of its attention on the athletes representing the country.

Ahead of the upcoming IRONMAN 70.3 Cap Cana, the City Destination announced its support for a group of Dominican athletes competing in the event.

Through this initiative, the destination integrates local talent development into its sports strategy.

The team includes Erick García Rossi, Alejandra Bonnelly Badía, and Richard Ángeles Arias. Meanwhile, Mar Despradel Tolentino, Keyla García, and Daniela Ortiz will compete in the relay category.

Beyond the competition

Cana aims to connect its sports platform directly with the development of local athletes in high-level competitive environments.

The effort goes beyond sponsorship during the race itself. It is also part of a broader vision in which sports are integrated as one of the pillars of the destination.

As part of this initiative, Cap Cana hosted a gathering with the athletes and officially presented the uniforms they will wear during the competition.

The event also helped strengthen the relationship between the athletes and destination executives within an environment focused on institutional support and athletic development.

Cap Cana strengthens its sports profile

Sports tourism remains one of the fastest-growing segments within the global tourism industry.

In the Dominican Republic, the growth of this segment has helped diversify tourism beyond the traditional sun-and-beach model. As a result, destinations hosting these events experience increased economic activity and tourism movement.

In that sense, Cap Cana has integrated multiple disciplines into its tourism development over the years.

Triathlon, golf, sport fishing, padel, tennis, youth football, and equestrian sports are all part of the destination’s sports calendar.

Through international events and competitions across different disciplines, Cap Cana continues to strengthen its position within regional sports tourism.
