In the spectacular setting of the Cap Cana Marina, the Caribbean White Marlin Tournament 2019 fishing tournament was held, a sporting event that received 26 boats from the United States, Puerto Rico, Venezuela and the Dominican Republic. The participants competed for three days in the waters of the Caribbean Sea. “This is an atmosphere of total camaraderie and we always promote respect for the environment, that characterizes the fishing activities of Marina Cap Cana,” highlighted a press release from the organizers. The tournament was held with the “Catch & Release” modality. The release of Marlin was carried out in accordance with the regulations of the International Sport Fishing Association (IGFA). They managed to release 104 Marlins after the tournament ended. The organizing committee integrated by Miguel Tirado, Patricia Noble, WT Events and the staff of Marina Cap Cana, presented the winners in the different modalities, resulting victorious as Best Boat the Bandolera boats (2,800 points), Blue Bird (1,600 points) and Angela with 1,400 points.
As the Best Fishermen in first place, Manuel Batlle, of the Bandolera boat with 1,400 points; second place, Luis Mercedes, also from Bandolera with 1,000 points; and third place, Jesus Montano from Blue Bird, with 800 points.
In the Best Fisherman Women category, Carolina Mederos of the Blue Bird boat, with 600 points, took the 1st place medal. Best Junior Fisherman was winner Lucas Valdivieso, from the boat Ángela with 200 points. The different activities were carried out with the support of the Ministry of Tourism of the Dominican Republic, Viking Yachts, IMS Yatchs, Gray Taxidermi, Allied Car and Truck Rental, Costa del Mar, JP Chenet, Ancora, among others.
The Cap Cana Marina, committed to the preservation of marine species of blue marlin, white marlin and sailfish, remains positioned and recognized worldwide as one of the world’s leading destinations for sport fishing. “It is established as a strictly marine capture and release, thus contributing to the protection and conservation of marine species of beak, demonstrating the importance of proper management of natural resources,” highlights the press release. The Dominican Republic remains positioned as one of the best recreational fishing destinations, attracting over the years a large community of international fishermen.
Inaugurated in 2007, the Marina is the heart of Cap Cana. It is built inland for what is considered the safest in the Caribbean, with more than 160 docks available for yachts up to 100 feet and surrounded by approximately 690 residential units. Its privileged location near the Canal de la Mona, one of the first places of fishing in the world, places it in an enviable position in relation to the rest of the Caribbean. The Cap Cana Marina is the only one in the Punta Cana area that is currently receiving cruises. Among the complementary services offered, the Wi-Fi service, provisioning and catering services are available upon request at the moorings, customs and immigration / port entry personnel in the marina, access channel with 20 navigation markers, individual moorings protected with very little tide increase, straight entry channel to facilitate day or night entry, waste oil disposal service, sewage extraction service and center for captains.
