Golf lovers know it well: if there is a fabulous destination in the Caribbean to enjoy their favorite sport, that is the Dominican Republic, Golf Destination of the Year 2019 in Latin America and the Caribbean, recognized by the IAGTO Awards granted by the International Association of Golf Tour Operators The distinction as the Best Golf Destination, which the Dominican Republic already had last year, has only increased its international prestige among fans of this sport. This popularity supports the level of the growing list of design golf courses signed by figures such as Jack Nicklaus, Pete Dye, Robert Trent Jones Sr., Gary Player, Tom Fazio, Nick Price or Greg Norman. Golf courses whose streets are beautifully framed between exotic palm trees, profuse vegetation and hills that bathe the warm rays of the Caribbean sun.
It should be noted that at least seven of the golf courses in the Dominican Republic have appeared more than once classified in the Top 50 of the Caribbean and Mexico that produces the publication Golfweek. And in particular, the Punta Espada golf course has managed to climb to the Top 10. But not only the eastern region, Punta Cana, offers visitors golf courses. Also a little further south, in La Romana, there are several top-notch courses. Other regions of the country where golf tourism is a booming segment are Santo Domingo and Juan Dolio; Puerto Plata and Río San Juan; and, in the central area of the Dominican Republic, Santiago, Bonao and Jarabacoa.
