Long gone are the days where the Dominican Republic was known only for inexpensive all-inclusive getaways: today the Dominican Republic can match any other destination in the Caribbean for the quality and variety of its luxe hotels, many of which are clustered in exclusive districts in and around greater Punta Cana, the country’s leading tourism destination. (And that includes the ultra-chic Cap Cana enclave).
Here are six of our favorites to check in to right now, both of the EP and all-inclusive variety.
Eden Roc Cap Cana Even some worldly travelers might be surprised to learn that there’s a Relais & Chateaux hotel in Punta Cana. The Eden Roc Cap Cana makes its mark with bright and stylish rooms and excellent dining; with but 60 guest rooms and a beautiful new spa, Eden Roc can deliver the kind of personal attention and pampering you’d expect at a true boutique hotel. Plainly, this is one of the best places to stay in the Caribbean, period.
TRS Cap Cana Hotel A vast array of pools defines the grounds of this small all-inclusive hotel (which is also adults-only), which has a variety of guest rooms including swim-up suites and high-floor rooms with spacious balconies. Dining options include an Ibiza-style beach club (owing to Palladium Resorts’ Spanish roots), Argentine steakhouse, and a casual sports bar, plus access to the signature Chic dinner show at the TRS Turquesa Hotel. The hotel is part of a wider expansion for the TRS brand in the region.
Sanctuary Cap Cana One of the most luxurious resorts in the Dominican Republic is fresh off a $45-million makeover that included redesigning every suite in the property and adding another 140 rooms to up the total to 325. If that sounds like a boutique resort getting too big, keep in mind that the resort site on over 30,000 acres of beachfront in Punta Cana’s most exclusive address. The low-rise clifftop village setting evokes laid-back elegance for an all-inclusive, adults-only stay.
